William J. von Liebig

(1923-1999)

William von Liebig was an honored inventor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who created a meaningful and lasting legacy. William von Liebig's inventions significantly contributed to vascular surgery and treatments for cardiovascular disease leading to his generous future support of young vascular surgery trainees. Having actively pursued education, receiving degrees from Juniata College, Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences, and New York University, Mr. von Liebig cared deeply about supporting and encouraging education through his foundation.

Mr. von Liebig was the recipient of many honorable awards

including the Independent Inventor of the Year Award (1995), the Textile Institute of England's Carothers Medal (1995), as well as the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and a Presidential Citation for his military service as a pilot with the 389th Bomb Group during World War II.

After relocating to Naples, FL, William von Liebig and his wife, Suzanne, continued their philanthropic efforts, expanding their mission to affect an even broader population by supporting the arts and education with substantial gifts in their community.


The William J. von Liebig Foundation's Past

The William J. von Liebig Foundation has a rich history. It has generously directed its focused attention on funding unique programs and concepts in the medical health field and supporting various programs such as those encouraging education. The foundation made generous contributions to recognize research among young medical trainees, establish The William J. von Liebig Initiative for Vascular Devices and Technology at the Harvard Institutes of Medicine, and establish a science program at Juniata College, Mr. von Liebig's alma mater.

The Foundation has past relationships with The Peres Peace House, Juniata College, and MayoClinic. It continues to foster and support relationships with The Baker Museum, The von Liebig Center, and The Naples Art Association's von Liebig Art Center.
